One of the success remedy I tend to apply on my fashion journey is networking and pushing collaborations which some may think this is just about meeting and working with others. This is more than that as I believe one could learn a different perspective , gain insight and a chance for your own work to be known by others. I have mentioned before one of the main reasons for starting this blog is to use it as a platform to introduce and work with upcoming designers like myself to showcase their work. I firmly believe that by putting yourself out there and working hard results follow. As a fashion creative I thrive in positioning myself with other creative minds.
Meeting upcoming talents like myself in designing, artists, musicians, stylists, the list is endless drives my inspiration and passion for this industry. Just like Coco Chanel once said ,”Fashion is everywhere”.
I go to all corners of the industry to find my inspiration and to learn from others too. I met this young Zimbabwean talented upcoming designer Sharleen Tlou from Birmingham when she got in touch with me on Instagram three years ago ( social media is a very powerful tool if used correctly ) and we hit it off straight away. We have done two behind the scenes collaborations and there is more on the pipeline. She is self taught and what inspires me is the fire in her belly which one needs to make it in this cut throught industry. After having a pleasure of shooting a look in one of her designs I sat down with her for a chat.
* WHO IS SHARLEEN TLOU?
Sharleen is a Zimbabwean born Stylist, Fashion Designer and Founder of HOHG (Hem Of The Garment)
* WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND STORY TO THE LABEL/BRAND ?
I spent a long time killing my dream. I don’t know what exactly gave me the fire to give it a go, but it had a lot to do with going into the shops and not finding plus size pieces that wowed me. Having to have been raised by my fashionable mother who constantly talks about the important of quality looks at the finishing on most pieces she buys, there was no way of escaping. HOHG is a United Kingdom based clothing brand that is currently producing timeless, MUST have statement pieces.
* WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THIS COLLECTION?
The colletion is inspired by the dresses my mother dressed me and my sisters in when we were growing up. My mother was and still is a lover of pleated clothing.
