For 13 years I lived in the Coldswold in England after recently moving to Wales. So you can imagine when I went to meet an old friend who lives in Cirencester and we decided to go for a walk on a rainy day. It is true when they say you do not know what you’ve got until its gone. I never took time to explore the local area. A few days ago I visited Bibury a charming Cotswold little village in Cirencester. I am glad I did this visit during this winter time as it was quieter than the normal buzzing scene of summertime when the area is flocked by tourists from all over the world. They were a handful though which proves how popular this little gem is no matter which time of the year. William Morris (1834-960) once described this little village as “the most beautiful village in England”.
The stroll I took proved his words to be right. I spent the morning exploring and admiring the beauty of it all. First stop was at the cottages of Arlington Row, the most photographed and beautiful cottages that date back to 1380. I will say though, I was a bit disappointed in missing seeing the little yellow car that created a buzz for “photobombing “.Once the exploring was done, tired and cold we made our way to The Catherine Wheel Pub for a pint of beer and warmth. The Catherine Wheel is a charming and relaxed proper village 15th-century pub, built in Cotswold stone that boosts low beams and timber. The atmosphere inside the pub was so inviting and welcoming. even though it was midmorning the open log fire was already going. The smile and service we got from the young gentleman behind the bar were absolutely amazing. We enjoyed our drinks and admiring the Christmas decorations and spirit that filled the pub. We didn’t want to go but sadly we both had too after our drinks. So if you ever find yourself in Bibury, The Catherine Wheel is the local pub that is worth your visit.
