I recently travelled to a place I call my “spiritual home” and that place is Bali Indonesia. I fell in love with Bali when I travelled there in June 2017 which happened to be my last one until 18 months later. With a long break from travelling due to my final year at university it made sense that I go back there. Besides the fact that I call it my spiritual home it was also a perfect meeting point for a mommy vacation with my friend Fiona who is based in Sydney Australia and have never been to Bali even though it’s on her door step! I flew to Bali with www.qatarairways.com who have recently launched flying from Cardiff. Saving me a lot of time and hustle to have to go to London for such flights. The flight was pleasant even though the journey was 18hrs long with a stopover in Doha.On landing at Denpasar Airport an arranged driver through the www.djabubali.com a hotel where I was staying for one night picked me up. I stayed at their Suite Room giving me a chance to rest proper before my friend arrived the following day. On day 2 in Bali I moved to www.thecolonyhotelbali.com where we stayed at their Deluxe Room for three days. Bali is a dream destination for a lot of travellers from all over the world. Tourism is one of the biggest contribution to Indonesia. So getting any type of accommodation that suite your needs and budget is not a problem. There is all sorts ranging from hotel, resorts or villas just to name a few. When I travel I prefer to stay in hotels but for a big group travel a villa is always best as you can have everyone in one roof making planning activities and meal times easy. Our stay at The Colony Hotel in Seminyak was magical to say the least. It was just so perfect place to catchup with my friend who I haven’t seen in 5 years. Our days started with a lush and healthy daily inclusive breakfast of variety choices at their Poolside Cafe, which was followed by daily visit to local day spas which cost us around £5 each ( what a bargain and it turned to be our little daily treats ) who wouldn’t be please with that? There are so many day spas in Bali so my advise would be try not use your hotel spas as they can cost four or five times what other spas in the area will cost. We also explored the local area by walking (which did me good for my little legs as I am not a walker at all I drive everywhere) and we finished our day by chilling around the pool with a cold local beer Bintang. There are so many options for lunches and dinners around the Seminyak area. It all depends on what your taste buds fancy. My favourite spot for lunches is kimsoo.com which double up as a cafe and homeware store just next door to The Colony Hotel. Kimsoo is very popular with travellers and bloggers like myself not wanting to stop over for their healthy and yummy lunches or cakes but also want to take a photo or two on their famous steps at the back of the store. For dinners we sample a few places, some a hit some a miss. But on this trip I did liked the www.motelmexicolabali.com after a local and photographer @alandoddphoto recommended we try it. We even stopped for a cocktail before one of our daily spa visit (which was a huge mistake hahaha ) All I can say to that is never have alcohol before a spa visit especially if you have to walk back to your hotel room! We finished our last day with a not so great dinner I had to complain but the atmosphere at that restaurant made the whole dinner disaster bearable as the staff handled my complain so well and sorted me straight away. It was topped up by the great and classic live music played by some local band who were so amazing that they even got us to the mood to finish our evening at lafavelabali.com a vintage restaurant that double up as a bar/club at night till early hours. The drive from Seminyak to Ubud took us an hour and half in a metered taxi. I recommend the taxi company called Blue Bird when you are in Bali. I find them so honest and reliable when it comes to charging tourists. A problem any traveller will verify is how drivers around the world can try rob you through taxi fares if they know you are a tourist. My advise verify all prices with your hotel reception on how much using local taxis should cost you. Our next stay was at www.alayahotels.com in Ubud. Since we were so early to check in we decided to drop our bags and go explore the local area. Our first stop was visiting www.monkeyforestubud.com which I highly recommend ( given I was not interested until my friend insisted we do it and so glad she kinda forced me hahaha). By the end of the visit it was time to head back to the hotel to check in. We stayed at their Alaya Room ( which had an amazing bath tub in the middle of the room ) After checking in we were also treated to an afternoon tea of Balinese yummy treats. Where do I even begin with the two days we spent in Ubud besides that it was not enough. The time was so short and we did not have enough to do all the stuff we wanted to do or explore the area well. We did visit the markets and bargained our way to all the stuff we needed (do not be ashamed to negotiate prices as tourists markets double their prices anyway). We also visited the Palace and the rest of the time we spent trying local dishes and what Bali is known for, their smoothie bowls. Two of their healthy eating places we tried and can recommend is www.kafe-bali.com a vegetarian/vegan restaurant and also Green Key restaurant a smoothie bar. Out of the two places Seminyak and Ubud , my favourite was Ubud by far even though I did not have enough time to explore it proper ( an excuse to plan another trip out there soon ) There is so much I want to do when I go back there like visiting the rice fields, the famous Bali swings and maybe even take a cooking class or how to make your own coconut oil. I feel Seminyak offers those tranquility beaches, the restaurants and bars perfect for socialising whereas Ubud is all about history, culture, art and wellness.
