- Know your WHY because a spare of a moment is never a good idea.
- Have a MEANING behind your tattoo and if you not sure what to get maybe try a fake one or even henna done which may give you an idea how it would look and how having it permanent may make you feel.
- Think wisely about WHERE you will get it done.
- Consider the SIZE you want done. I would say this is greatly influenced by your body size or the area you want it done.
- Get a PROFESSIONAL to do it.
- Consider how well do you take PAIN.
OMG ! you have tattoos? I can’t believe you have tattoos you do not look the part…is what I always get when people realised I have them. Very few people have seen or even know that I have tattoos because I have to be almost naked for anyone to see them which happen mostly when I’m in a bikini on a holiday. Others receives it with shock or not getting it because they perceive having tattoos as being hardcore, dangerous or even rock and roll which I am definitely not. I first got my tattoo when I was in my late 20’s and fast forward to now I have seven and planning on adding to that number when that time comes. For those who know how addictive tattoos are my lucky number 7 is nothing. I never woke up one day and thought right I want to get a tattoo. It was all a journey which I gave thoughts and research about. Which grew over the years and so proud that they are just not tattoos I randomly picked but they all have meanings and significance to me.
Some people may call it body modification or even put a stigma on it ( gone are those days I believe) Some people look at it as a trend or fashion statement or even an “in thing”. It doesn’t matter because at the end of the day it is your body and no one can tell you how to treat it. Leaving aside what the society think about having tattoos I got most of my tattoos to honour my loved ones. Take for instance the tattoo on my wrist, it honours my late mother. It’s her name with her birth date and death date. And fast forward years later when I had my kids I got their names and birth dates inked on each side of my breasts. The rest of my tattoos are my expression and artistic narrative of my culture and spiritual being. I also choose wisely the places on my body where I get them done this is usually based on the elasticity of the area and where I can’t see them daily unless I look. I also like to have them where I am and will always be covered.
There are so many reasons why people get tattoos done and for that reason one should be left on their own whether that is a right decision or not. But one thing I can confirm that I used to hear was how ADDICTIVE they are and that is so ! Deciding to get inked is a huge decision and not to be taken lightly. If you are thinking about getting a tattoo for whatever reason there are things to consider before hand because once that tattoo is on you it is forever unless you decide to get it laser removed which is painful and costly.
Here are few facts to consider when considering getting a tattoo:
