We get so busy in our lives that we don’t even make time for ourselves. Our lives are filled with schedules but we fail to schedule time for ourselves. The funny thing is even though we tend to be busier with work and family life, we still find time to schedule spending time with certain circle of friends or co-workers, but we still fail to spend time alone. Last year I got into a habit of inserting little moments of spending time alone, unplugging from everything and disconnecting myself from everyone. I embarked on a journey that taught me a lot about myself and learnt few lessons along the way like :
Self Love/ Appreciation – I learnt to thank myself for everything that my body has done for me. From carrying both my children to functioning properly because these are some of the things we take for granted. The kindness I normal show to other I show it to my self and giving gratitude to my whole being.
Confidence – Sometimes people can see me as the most confidence person in the room but the matter of the truth is I sometimes self doubt a lot. But what spending time alone has done for me, is to give me the ability to remember my worth, my ability and power no matter what.
Solitude – In this day and age of social media like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, where everyone documents every facet of their lives it is important to now and again find tremendous peace in solitude. It’s amazing how some time out can do you wonders. You get to recharge and remember what matters.
Purpose – It is easy to forget the reason(s) behind our doing. Finding your purpose in life is the starting point of your why. Life is a whole different experience when you understand what guides you. Everything transforms when you decide to focus on creating a purpose in your life.
Flaws and All – When you spend time alone you have more time to look in the mirror and take time to digest on your reflection. Once you accept that there is absolutely nothing you can do to change what you see ( well unless you decide to go with the expensive route of changing yourself ) you can learn to change how you think about your self.
Peace – With the world full of so many difficult situations, ups and downs and destructions, it could be so hard to find inner peace. I have come to believe that inner peace is a choice. When you spend time alone, you have time to block everything else that is surrounding you and not hear any noise around surrounding you. Take time and listen to your inner self.
When you start to spend time alone start small, maybe set aside 10 minutes a day just you and your thoughts. Grow from there, to maybe taking a solo trip local or abroad. How do you spend quality time alone?
