Cold bitter and rainy weather, log fires burning and Christmas tree up and a smell of ginger bread man. This is how you know it is the festive season. The holiday season brings families and friends together like no other time of the year. I always look forward to this time of the year especially hosting guests. One of my favourite thing I love to offer my guests is the delicious and spicy mulled wine. I have learnt to perfect the recipe over the years. it has also became a traditional drink in my household during Christmas time. Below I am sharing how I make it sweet and fruity with subtle spicy flavours.
INGREDIENTS:
1ORANGE/ 2 SATSUMA
CINNAMON STICKS
CLOVES
STAR ANISE
BOTTLE OF RED WINE of your choice
If you can’t find the two above get MULLED WINE SPICES in a box most supermarkets carry them.
BROWN SUGAR/AGAVE/CASTOR SUGAR OR HONEY
Depend on your preference
Optional for garnishing is a LEMON, GINGER and a WHOLE NUTMEG.
METHOD
Cooking time is 10 – 20 mins
Pour the wine into a sauce pan and add all your ingredients. Slow cook the mixture for 10 -15 min making sure it does not boil. Let it simmer for 5 mins, garnish and serve.
TIPS
There is no right or wrong way.
The sweetness and spiciness will all depend on your palette.
The more you do it the better and braver you will get at it
That is simple as ABC. Talk about Christmas in a glass!
