My first stop and base was Islamabad the capital city, nestled against the backdrop of the Margalla Hills. As I wondered through the meticulously planned street streets I was struck by the city’s modernity and tranquility. From the iconic Faisal Mosque, with its elegant white domes, to the bustling of Jinnah Super market. Islamabad seamlessly blends tradition with progress. One of the highlights of my visit was experiencing the warmth and generosity of the Pakistani people. Whether it was sharing a cup of chai tea with the locals at the road side stall or being invited into a family home for a traditional meal. I was overwhelmed by the genuine hospitality extended to me at every turn. Despite being a stranger in a foreign land and a Black woman travelling solo , I felt welcomed, safe and as if I were a long lost friend.
PESHAWAR : A GATEWAY TO THE PAST
From Islamabad, I journeyed north west to Peshawar, a city steeped in history and culture. As I strolled through the ancient streets of the Old city, I was transported back in time, surrounded by centuries old architecture and bustling bazaars. The vibrant colours , tantalising smells and melodious sounds of Peshawar’s markets awakened my senses, offering a glimpse into the city’s rich heritage as a crossroads of civilisation. But what truly left a lasting impression on me was the kindness and hospitality of the people of Peshawar. Whether I was exploring the historic Qissa Khwani bazzar or sampling the delectable local cuisines. I was met with smiles and open arms at every turn. From shop keepers offering me sweet treats to strangers striking up conversations in broken English. I felt embraced by the warmth of the Peshawari people.
