” VENICE – ONCE WAS DEAR , THE PLEASANT PLACE OF ALL FESTIVITY , THE REVEL OF THE EARTH , THE MASQUE OF ITALY ” – LORD BYRON.

Summer 2023 I travelled to Venice in Italy. Italy was never on my bucket list for 2023, but when a cheap flight popped up on my emails I could not resist. As a Black woman I have often seen blogs and social media posting by other people of colour talking about their experiences in Italy. I guess that is one of the reasons it took me so long to visit Italy. I travelled with a friend. We had 3 days 2 nights to spent in Venice.

How we got there:

We flew from London Stansted with Ryan Air. The flight was £65 for a return. Our flight was at 06.30 am. We left Cardiff early hours of the morning to be at the airport on time. We landed in Venice at 09.30 am.

Where we stayed:

Venice is a summer destination and it can be hard to find decent and reasonable priced accommodation. We managed to get availability at the Palazzetto Madonna Hotel. This hotel is centrally located and just 400 meters away from the Rialto bridge and 20 minutes walk from St Mark’s Square and its Basilica. We paid £250 per night.

What we did in Venice:

Day 1

After checking in our hotel we decided to go for a walk to explore some of must see in Venice. Our first stop was the Rialto Bridge which was about 400 meters from our hotel. We also explore all backstreets and waters of Venice. We then stopped at a local restaurant to eat late lunch which also happened to be our dinner.

Day 2

We started with St. Marks Square and the Basilica before stopping for lunch.

Day 3

Our flight was late so we decided to try the Gondola ride to explore the canals we could not explore on foot.

It was the perfect 3 days in Venice and would have not wanted to be there longer. It was hot and very busy. I was left a little bit disappointed with the food though.
